After nearly five weeks of consistent military shelling, triggered by an unprecedented Oct. 7 attack by Hamas militants, Israel has agreed to daily humanitarian pauses in Gaza — where it will hold fire for four to six hours a day.
The “tactical” pauses will not only allow aid-filled trucks to enter Gaza through two humanitarian corridors to supply Palestinians with resources they need, but allow residents and foreign nations to move from northern Gaza to the south.
At least 22 people were killed in airstrikes between three hospitals on Friday, including the main hospital al-Shifa.
Israel did not immediately comment but says it does not target civilians and goes to great lengths to avoid hitting them. It says Hamas militants have hidden command centers and tunnels beneath Shifa, allegations which Hamas denies.
Despite calls from world leaders from across the globe, Israel is not currently entertaining the idea of a ceasefire, which they see as a "surrender to Hamas." Global’s Daniele Hamamdjian reports from Jerusalem.
