Israel says “UN isn’t doing enough” in aid delivery, as tactical pauses begin at Gaza border

Though daily tactical pauses at the Kerem Shalom crossing began on Saturday, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says is to facilitate humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, Israel says the United Nations (UN) is not delivering enough aid amid the war in the Palestinian enclave.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (CoGAT) spokesperson Shimon Freedman said while “there is no obstacle in the way” of aid being checked by Israeli security, “the challenge remains with distribution.”

“We have the ability and indeed are inspecting more humanitarian aid than the UN can distribute,” Freedman said, citing the difficulty of “maneuvering within a war zone” amid an insufficient amount of time, storage, trucks and drivers. “The UN isn't doing enough right now, Freedman added.

After the death of eight Israeli soldiers in Rafah on Saturday, Israel declined a ceasefire in the region, offering daily 11-hour pauses along the Israel-Gaza border instead. This comes as the Israel-Hamas conflict approaches its ninth month.
