At least 30 people, including three children, were killed after an explosion at a gas station in Russia's Dagestan region.

A total of 115 people were injured in the blast and subsequent fire, health officials said. A total of 65 of those injured, including 16 children remained hospitalized as of midday Tuesday.

Eleven people, including two children, were in critical condition.

The fire started at an auto repair shop in the regional capital of Makhachkala Monday before spreading to the nearby gas station, officials from Russia’s Emergency Services Ministry said.

It took firefighters more than three-and-a-half hours to put out the fire, which had spread to approximately 600 square metres.
