Canada is developing plans to be able to “scale up rapidly” the troops it currently has in Latvia as part of NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence (EFP), Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the end of the G7 summit in Germany, Trudeau said Canada was “committed to making sure we continue to stand up against Russian threats and Russian posturing and quite frankly, Russian actions in eastern Europe.”

"We are not looking at being provocative. We are looking at ensuring that Russia knows we will be there to defend democracies and the values that underpin them as necessary," Trudeau said at the news conference.
