As grocery receipts increase in cost across Canada, critics have been questioning the sudden push by the Liberal government to try and “stabilize” prices.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday that grocery chain heads would be summoned to Ottawa to share their plans on how to cap food costs and “ideally” start to lower them.
Trudeau claimed if things don’t change, the federal government will step in and take action.
One consequence that could be imposed on the grocery chains is a windfall tax, which experts believe could end up negatively impacting the wallets of Canadian citizens.
