Grocery shoplifting on the rise amid soaring food prices in Canada: researcher

Canadians' frustration with soaring food prices is sparking an increase in food theft, according to a researcher at Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S.

Sylvain Charlebois wrote an op-ed piece last week stating grocery store owners are more concerned about theft than they had previously been. He says food thefts have risen 40 per cent in the last six months.

Meanwhile, the Canada Food Price Report estimates all grocery prices will increase by an average of five to seven per cent.

As Global's Travis Prasad reports, many shoppers are blaming the stores.
