The European Union says it is ready to provide Tunisia with more than $1.7bn to help its struggling economy if it agrees to a series of measures.
It wants to combat illegal migration across the Mediterranean.
Along with von der Leyen, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni were in Tunisia on Sunday for talks with the country’s President Kais Saied.
