Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he won't release government calls from his personal phone to protect the privacy of those who call him.

The Ford government has been locked in a transparency battle with Global News over the premier’s personal cellphone for more than a year, refusing to release government-related records from the device and arguing the request is a breach of privacy.

While the fight has continued to escalate in front of the provincial privacy watchdog — with the premier’s personal lawyers, in addition to government lawyers, now being involved — Ford has continued his very public distribution of his unofficial cell phone number offering the digits in his official capacity as premier.

Queen's Park Bureau Chief Colin D'Mello explains the story.
