At least nine people have been killed, including eight children, and many more injured during a school shooting in the city of Kazan, Tatarstan in southwest Russia, on Tuesday morning.
An eyewitness told TASS the attacker had let off an explosive at School No. 175 in the central Russian city and had then gone on a shooting spree. Some students jumped out of the school’s windows to escape the shooter.
Reports indicate that nine people died, including eight children and a teacher, while at least 32 people have been taken to hospital.
The authorities have confirmed that the alleged gunman, a 19-year-old man with a registered firearm, has been detained. The motive for the attack is not yet clear.
