Joylyn Bukovac, a reporter with NBC affiliate WSMV, was reporting on the aftermath of the school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday when she revealed that she was herself a survivor of a school shooting.

"A lot of parents are running up to me, saying that they are nervous about the future for their kids and to be honest, I'm right there with them because I've seen exactly what gun violence can do," Bukovac said during her report.

"I was in the hallway when the gunman at my school shooting opened fire, shooting, killing one of my peers and just the shock that moves through your body. I can't even describe it."

After her report, her outpouring of spontaneous emotion prompted a resident who was listening in from nearby to give Bukovac a hug.

On Monday, three children and three adults were killed by a 28-year-old shooter who was then gunned down by police at a Presbyterian private school in Nashville, Tennessee. Police say the shooter was a former student of The Covenant School and was armed with two assault-style rifles and a handgun.
