Manitoba's chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin announced on Wednesday that the province will be loosening some COVID-19 public health restrictions beginning Feb. 8, with the orders ending on Feb. 21. Restrictions being eased are on public gatherings, removing capacity limit caps of 250 people, expanding liquor sales to 12 a.m. and permitting sports and recreational activities. Proof of vaccination requirements will remain.

“The data and modelling show that we are stabilizing and may have in fact passed the peak we expected from omicron. The next few weeks will be critical as we monitor these trends and determine if it is appropriate to reduce additional restrictions over the longer term,” said Roussin.

In addition, the province announced new supports Wednesday for struggling businesses, as well as arts and cultural organizations who continue to be hit hard by the pandemic.
