COVID-19 spread in Alberta appears to be slowing according to data, but hospitalizations in the province increase slightly over the previous week.
Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping and chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw updated the COVID-19 situation in the province on Wednesday.
Hinshaw announced that COVID-19 positivity in the province saw a slight decrease, however the province saw an average of 10 deaths per day in the period between April 26 and May 2.
A total of 60 deaths were recorded over that timeframe.
Copping announced that the province was improving access and eligibility for the COVID-19 treatment Paxlovid.
Starting on Wednesday, Albertans how are deemed eligible can obtain the drug directly from a physician nurse practitioner or a pharmacist.
Copping also announced that you no longer need a positive PCR test to be eligible, but a rapid-home test.
Albertans must still meet certain clinical criteria to obtain the treatment.
