Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams said on Thursday that the test positivity rate of the latest daily COVID-19 tests is 2.6, the lowest that it has hit below 3 since the end of October.

Williams said this speaks to the impact and effectiveness of public health measures that have been in place since Boxing Day and asked people to stay the course since the province is not “out of the woods yet.”

Ontario has done 52,000 COVID-19 tests in the past 24 hours, and reported 1,563 cases on Thursday, bringing the provincial total to 273,660.

The death toll in the province has risen to 6,393 as 88 more deaths were reported.

Dr. Willams said public health has identified 153 cases of variants to date, 152 of them for the U.K. variant, and one case of the South African variant.
