Question period in Canada's House of Commons in Ottawa continued the debate after a Chinese diplomat was expelled from Canada on Monday for allegedly making threats toward Conservative MP Michael Chong.

"We need a foreign-agent registry like the one that exists in Australia and the U.S., we need a national public inquiry into foreign interference, and we need to shut down the illegal police stations operating in Canada that harass innocent civilians that the minister of public safety told was already shut – they are not – once again he has misled Canadians," Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman said.

"Foreign actors attempting to monitor, threaten or intimidate Canadians is completely unacceptable. The RCMP have said they are actively investigating these suspected stations and as they have done before, they won't hesitate to take action again," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in response.

Last week, Independent Sen. Yuen Pau Woo defended two Montreal-area Chinese community organizations that have been accused by the RCMP of hosting secret Chinese government police stations. He told reporters in Montreal that the RCMP should bring forth their evidence or leave the groups alone.

Ottawa declared Toronto-based diplomat Zhao Wei “persona non grata” just minutes after the House wrapped up debate on Monday where the Conservatives and the NDP both demanded the Liberal government remove Wei from Canada.
