Conservative Party of Canada leader Erin O'Toole revealed their climate plan on Thursday, including a carbon pricing strategy that would propose a $20-per-tonne carbon price — lower than the Liberals’.

O'Toole said during Thursday's announcement that his party would scrap Trudeau’s carbon price system and replace it with a “pricing mechanism for consumers,” that would see their funds go into a "personal savings account" for them to use for on products that lower their carbon footprint.

“The most efficient way to reduce our emissions is to use a pricing mechanism,” O’Toole said. “Canada’s Conservatives will scrap the federal carbon tax back stop and work with the provinces to implement an innovative and national personal low carbon savings account.”

O’Toole added his party would also introduce a zero-emission vehicle mandate, which requires 30 per cent of light-duty vehicles sold to have zero emissions by 2030.
