Class 9 Girl's Solar Ironing Cart Wins Climate Prize, Promises Better Air Quality

A solar ironing cart designed by a Class 9 girl Vinisha Umashankar from Tamil Nadu has won her the Children's Climate Prize from the Children's Climate Prize Foundation, Sweden. The innovation many believe has the potential to improve air quality in India as it could completely eliminate use of charcoal in conventional irons. With 10 million ironing carts estimated across the country burning 50 million kilos of charcoal every day, this could be a game changer in fighting climate change. The 14-year-old in Thiruvannamalai is now working on launching a commercial model. NDTV caught up with the girl who who was also chosen for the APJ Kalam Innovation Award.
