Chennai Rain: Waters are gradually receding in Chennai, a day after 21 cm rain pounded the city. Many low lying areas are still inundated. Speaking to NDTV's Sam Daniel, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi says it could have been a repeat of the devastating 2015 floods but for the preparedness of the civic body. Sudden heavy discharge from the Chembarambakkam lake caused havoc in 2015. He says the state government has empowered local officials to gradually release waters in time and there would not be a need for any sudden excess release leading to a deluge.
