Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau has the strongest leadership numbers of all the party leaders in a new Ipsos poll exclusive to Global News released on Friday. Thirty-nine per cent of those polled found Trudeau was the best person to lead the country, followed by Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole at 25 per cent and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh at 23 per cent.

Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs, said the challenge for opposition party leaders will be to build familiarity among voters heading into the election on Sept. 20. He said currently, Trudeau is the best-known candidate.

The poll found Justin Trudeau was the most “trusted” at 28 per cent, as opposed to Erin O’Toole and Jagmeet Singh at 16 per cent and 17 per cent respectively. But, those polled also said Trudeau was the most likely candidate to “say anything to get elected.”

Bricker says it’s the first time in decades a Liberal party leader has been seen as having “a hidden agenda.”
