World leaders meeting at the climate summit in Glasgow have agreed a plan to reverse global deforestation by 2030.
Scientists say that is essential if global warming is to be restricted to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
Trees capture and store carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and cutting them down or burning them is a major contributor to CO2 emissions.
More than half of the world’s remaining rainforest is in the Amazon basin, most of it in Brazil. The country’s president Jair Bolsonaro has backed the new plan to reverse deforestation.
But thousands of square miles of Brazil's Amazon are still being felled and similar promises to end the logging have been made in the past.
