Iceland supermarket boss: Amazon rainforest deforestation is 'humanity's problem'

The Managing Director of Iceland, Richard Walker, has told Sky News that further deforestation in the Amazon is a problem his business cannot ignore.

Mr Walker said that if deforestation continues, the Amazon could transform from being a major carbon sink to being a net carbon emitter.

The law-change would allow so-called land grabbers who have been illegally occupying public forest land to claim the title officially - a move charities say would only increase deforestation.

Clearance of the rainforest has hit a record since right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro was elected in 2019.
