U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed Thursday that after speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel had agreed to a "mutual, unconditional ceasefire," and Egypt also confirmed that Hamas and other groups in Gaza had agreed to the ceasefire as well.

Biden added the U.S. remained committed to working with the United Nations and international partners to provide "rapid humanitarian assistance" for the people of Gaza and the Gaza reconstruction effort.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said earlier Thursday that Israel accepted the Egyptian proposal after a late-night meeting with his security cabinet. Hamas quickly followed suit and said it would honour the deal. The cease-fire is expected to take effect at 2 a.m. local time, roughly three hours after the announcement.
