Staffing shortages at Canadian hospitals are getting worse by the day, leaving frontline staff overwhelmed and resulting in growing wait times for patients in need of care.

This weekend, staffing concerns shuttered more than a dozen emergency departments at hospitals across Ontario.

Experts say there are other options available for Canadians in need of treatment, including virtual appointments. But as Mike Drolet reports, even these options aren’t providing the relief that’s needed.
