The U.S. federal government has issued an ultimatum to the country’s 10 largest airlines, telling them to do more to help stranded and delayed customers or Washington will take action.

U.S. Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has faced pressure from lawmakers who want airlines to improve service or face stiff fines, has clashed with major carriers over who is to blame for the tens of thousands of delayed flights and cancellations.

Buttigieg said in a letter to airline executives that he is “contemplating options” for new rules “that would further expand the rights of airline passengers.”

Jennifer Johnson has the response from travel experts, as delays continue to disrupt Americans travel plans.
