U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday that attacks in the Red Sea by Yemen’s Houthis would have a “very real” impact on people, due to disruptions in shipments of everything from fuel to medicine and food. He said the disruptions would also result in higher prices.

U.S. and British naval forces on Tuesday shot down 21 drones and missiles fired by Houthis, in what Blinken called the largest attack in the shipping corridor to date.

The Houthis claimed to have fired on a U.S. ship that was “providing support” to Israel and said the attack was in response to America’s military operation in the region.

He also said Iran was aiding the Houthis in carrying out the attacks by providing technology, equipment, and intelligence information.

U.S. National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby, meanwhile, called the attacks in the Red Sea “escalatory” and added that the Houthis would face “consequences” if they did not cease.
