Secretary of State Antony Blinken testified at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing intended to investigate the end of the U.S. war in Afghanistan and the decision-making leading up to the chaotic withdrawal from the country.

During the hearing, Republican Sen. Jim Risch on Tuesday grilled Blinken as to who at the White House has the ability to cut off the president's microphone to prevent him from going off-script - a story that has made the rounds by far-right critics.

"There is no such person...the president speaks for himself," Blinken replied.

During the three-hour testimony, Blinken outlined the process of how the administration is helping the roughly 100 Americans still in Afghanistan who wish to leave.

Blinken reiterated that the Biden administration did not expect the rapid collapse of the Afghan government and its security forces as the Taliban took over Kabul in August.
