Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said Thursday that the suspect in a shooting at a Kroger grocery store earlier that afternoon is dead.

He said there were 13 victims, including one fatality, in the incident. Lane called the scene "horrific" and there had been people hiding in the store even in freezers.

He thanked the multiple law enforcement officers who came in response to the shooting, including the sheriff's office, but advised it would still take time to determine what happened.

Lane also said the extent of the injuries were "very serious."
