Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, two Canadians detained in China in what some believe is retaliation for Canada detaining Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou, have not been tried by China after reports came out the two had been indicted.
A Canadian official said the status of the two Michaels’ cases remains the same, saying a translation error had resulted in the initial reports they had been tried.
As Mike Le Couteur reports, the pair have reached a grim anniversary having spent two years detained, kept in separate prisons and largely cut off from the world.
