Western Australia police released audio recording of the moment they discovered missing four-year-old girl Cleo Smith.

"My name is Cleo" she said as officers asked for her to confirm her identity following an 18-day search that attracted worldwide attention.

Cleo was last been seen in her family's tent in the early hours of Oct. 16 at the remote Blowholes Shacks campsite in Macleod.

She was eventually found safe early on Wednesday when police broke into a house in Carnarvon, a town about 100 km south of the campsite on the far northwest coast of the state.

The house is just 3 km from her family home, Australian media reported.

A 36-year-old man was twice taken to hospital for self-inflicted injuries before being interviewed and charged with various offences related to the abduction on Thursday.
