For two hours on primetime television on Thursday, the first of six public hearings into what happened on Jan. 6 in the U.S. Capitol began.

The committee investigating the attempted insurrection showed evidence of what it called “an attempted coup,” which it said was the direct result of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The committee also promises the coming weeks will make a direct link to Trump's inner circle. As Jackson Proskow reports, it could implicate sitting members of Congress in the alleged plot to overthrow American democracy.
