Members of Congress on Thursday shared testimonials of their experiences of Jan. 6, 2021, one year after the attack on the U.S. Capitol, which saw supporters of then-President Donald Trump storm the Capitol building.

Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene held a “Republican Response” to the commemoration of the Jan. 6 attack. During their remarks, the members of Congress said they believe members of the federal government were involved in last year’s riot and planted actors to ramp up the crowd to breach the Capitol.

"I'm one of those people and I'm not shy to tell you that I don’t trust our government. And that's another reason why I ran for Congress – it’s our government screwing everything up for American people," Greene said.

Trapped in the gallery of the House of Representatives, occupying balcony seats off-limits to the public because of COVID-19, roughly three dozen House Democrats were the last ones to leave the chamber on Jan. 6, bearing witness as the certification of a presidential election gave way to a violent riot.

As danger neared and as the rioters were trying to break down the doors, they called their families.

"Those of us trapped in the gallery, we lived it -- ducking, crawling under over railings..hands, knees, the sounds the smells," Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester said.
