The Canadian government has announced it is banning TikTok from being on any government-issued mobile device after Canada's Chief Information Officer conducted a review of the app and found it presents "an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday noted concerns around data protection and safety, saying it could be a "first step" or the "only step" taken, but they would continue to keep Canadians safe. The federal privacy commissioner also recently announced his office, along with the commissioners for Quebec, B.C. and Alberta were conducting a joint investigation into TikTok.
Kyle Benning has more on why the government is putting the ban in place and how TikTok is responding.
