What is the future of Doctrine of Discovery in Canada?

Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Marc Miller reacts to the Catholic Church's repudiation of the Doctrine of Discovery and breaks down what it means for the Canadian government. The Doctrine of Discovery 'is a complex web of laws that need to be re-examined and that's what the government is doing, particularly in light of the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples,' he said.



A national Indian Residential School Crisis Line is available to provide support for survivors and those affected. People can access emotional and crisis referral services by calling the 24-hour service at 1-866-925-4419.

Mental health counselling and crisis support are also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the Hope for Wellness hotline at 1-855-242-3310 or by online chat.
