The Conservative Party of Canada has picked Pierre Poilievre to be its new leader, who won a decisive victory with 68 per cent of the vote from members.

In his victory speech, he spoke about being "one party serving one country," and focused on the key issues of his leadership campaign, including affordability and the price of living.

But while he's won the leadership, Poilievre will now face Justin Trudeau and the Liberals and find a way to appeal to Canadians. Ottawa Bureau Chief Mercedes Stephenson reports on the tone Poilievre struck after winning and what challenges he'll need to overcome in order to lead the party to victory in the next election.
