A strike at the Rogers Sugar refinery in Vancouver has made some bakers and candy-makers in western Canada bitter, as they struggle with sugar shortages and higher costs.

Production at the facility — one of the few in Canada — has slowed as the strike stretches into its seventh week.

The president of the union, at odds with Rogers Sugar, says many businesses rely on the Vancouver refinery for sugar.

But as Naomi Barghiel reports, others in the industry aren’t worrying about holiday baking just yet.
