Home Secretary Suella Braverman says she is "utterly serious about ending the scourge of illegal migration" and about fixing "our hopelessly lax asylum system".

She launched an attack on Labour, saying: "Let's be clear about what is really going on here - the British people deserve to know who is serious about stopping the invasion of our southern coast and who is not.

"Let's stop pretending they are all refugees in distress, the whole country knows that is not true."

The Home Secretary added that MPs "need to be straight with the public" and say "the system is broken".
