Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., spoke Feb. 11 as House impeachment managers continued to present evidence for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.

Lieu argued that following the attack Trump did not take any responsibility or show remorse for his rhetoric that included calling for his supporters to “fight like hell.”

“President Trump's lack of remorse and refusal to take accountability during the attack shows his state of mind,” Lieu said. “It shows that he intended the events of Jan. 6 to happen. And when it did, he delighted in it.” Lieu said Trump did not go far enough to acknowledge his role in the attack when he issued a video statement condemning the violence a week later.
