Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., spoke Feb. 11 as House impeachment managers continued to present evidence for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Lieu played a series of video statements from Republican officials condemning the Capitol mob and Trump’s rhetoric, which multiple officials said lit the flames of the attack. In one video clip, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said Trump “stoked the flames of outrage for weeks leading up to the events … and he refused to adequately prepare the U.S. Capitol for the possibility of violence and left it nearly defenseless. His remarks during and after the travesty of the attack on the Capitol were disgraceful.”
