Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, spoke Feb. 10 as House impeachment managers made their case for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting insurrection during the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Trump primed his supporters months before the election to believe that if he lost, it would be because the election was stolen, Castro said.
“The most combustible thing you can do in a democracy is convince people that election doesn't count, that their voice and their vote don't count and that it's all been stolen, especially if what you're saying are lies,” he said.
