Bakhmut has seen some of the most brutal fighting during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as the battle for the strategically valuable region has turned into a grinding war of attrition.

The exact death toll from the conflict remains unclear, but the combined number of Ukrainians and Russians killed is well into the thousands.

As Crystal Goomansingh reports, with Moscow closing in on the city, residents are getting out.
