A Russian rocket smashed into Tatiana Olexandrivna’s building March 22, killing two of her neighbours and leaving a gaping hole where they used to live.

Despite that, she had no intentions of leaving, adding that she would be back at work the following Tuesday and would support the Ukrainian forces in whatever way she could.

“We will stay in Mykolaiv and will be here until the last. On Tuesday I will go back to work, my company is still working - I hope to carry on working.” She said.

But some people decided to flee the bombing towards Odesa, leaving from Mykolaiv’s bus station.

Among them was 70-year-old Viktor, who said Russians had begun to bombard his village the previous day, with many homes destroyed.

A crucial staging post in Russia’s attempts to capture the strategic port city of Odesa, the centre of Mykolaiv has been the victim of more seemingly random rocket attacks in recent days, locals say.
