Amid scares triggered by the actively-exploding Ubinas volcano in Peru, authorities are working together to create shelters for up to 1,500 locals.

The Ubinas volcano has registered dozens of explosions since Tuesday, prompting the regional governor to call for federal aid.

“As a regional government we are going to request the cabinet to form a dialogue table so that the president (Dina Boluarte) gets involved in the issue of the definitive resettlement of the population,” Regional Governor of Moquegua Gilia Gutierrez said on Thursday.

Already, the volcano has spread ash across the region, impacting the health and crops of locals.

Peruvian Armed Forces are actively working to settle one of its nearest shelters, which will reportedly be functioning in approximately two weeks.
