Vatican prepared for Indigenous delegation, know the enormity of issue, expert says

When Indigenous leaders meet with Pope Francis this week they will be looking to get a long-awaited apology from the Catholic Church for its role in Canada’s abusive residential school system.

On Sunday, 32 First Nations, Inuit and Métis representatives touched down in Rome for a week of meetings with the pope, arranged by the Holy See and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. The trip was initially scheduled for last December but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Crystal Goomansingh reports, experts are divided as to whether those demands will finally be met.
