A rare coalition of Democrats and Republicans came together on Tuesday to pass a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure plan, which is considered a cornerstone of U.S. President Joe Biden’s agenda.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called the bill an “overdue step to revitalize America’s infrastructure” and would result in a robust injection of funds into the public works systems that underpin much of American life.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took aim at the Democrats's next legislative priority, calling it "toxic." He said the $3.5 trillion package reads like someone “handed the squad a pen and piece of paper,” referring to the group of young, progressive Democrats that includes Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Ilhan Omar.

McConnell earlier voted to approve the $1 trillion infrastructure plan.
