Speaking to reporters on Monday after the U.S. House passed President Joe Biden’s signature $1-trillion infrastructure bill over the weekend, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the bill “sells itself,” adding that communities “never needed to be persuaded” to upgrade local infrastructure.

Buttigieg said his department has been “gearing up hoping this bill would pass” and said while some infrastructure projects could be implemented on a short timeframe, in other cases the administration would have to “stand up” entirely new projects to be implemented on a longer timeframe.

Buttigieg also explained how changes spurred by the new bill would help the government ease supply chain issues, especially at U.S. ports.
