Protesters in New Caledonia say moving pro-independence leaders to mainland France has boosted their resolve and increased tension.
Seven independence activists were arrested and sent to the mainland to face pre-trial detention for their alleged role in the unrest, triggered by French voting reforms forced on the territory.
The unrest brought the Pacific archipelago to a standstill in May.

Al Jazeera’s Wayne Hay reports.
