Unifor is accusing former president Jerry Dias of accepting money from a COVID-19 rapid test kit supplier to promote those products to employers of union members. The allegations became public right after Dias made some personal revelations.

"This past December, my life took a remarkable turn for the worse when I was confronted with a debilitating sciatic nerve issue. It's hard for me to say this, but my coping mechanism has been pain killers, sleeping pills and alcohol," Dias said in a statement shortly before the details were released. "These factors have impaired my judgment in recent months …I am entering a residential rehabilitation facility."

Abigail Bimman reports.
