The world is failing to meet its commitments to limit environmental damage that is jeopardising the planet and our very existence. This stark warning is being given in a new United Nations climate report.
The report says climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution add up to three self-inflicted planetary crises that threaten future generations.
More than a million of the estimated eight million plant and animal species are facing a serious increased risk of extinction.
The UN report once again highlights that poorer nations are bearing the brunt of this crisis. The extraction of natural resources has left more than one billion people in poverty and around nine million are dying prematurely every year from pollution.
Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports on what is at stake.
