UN and humanitarian sources say they were arrested during government raids on Tigrayans.
The United Nations said Wednesday that Ethiopia had detained 72 drivers working for the World Food Programme (WFP) in a northern city along the only functional road leading into the famine-threatened Tigray region.
Advances by Tigrayan rebels, who have been fighting against the government for more than a year, prompted the declaration of a nationwide state of emergency last week.
