Drawing on the long and rich history between Canada and the Netherlands, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday urged Dutch parliamentarians to embrace multilateralism in the face of rising populism and extremism. Trudeau delivered the speech during an official visit to the Netherlands, in the same room Winston Churchill called for a united Europe in 1948.
With a nod to Canada’s liberation of the Netherlands during the Second World War, Trudeau said Canadians and Dutch stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the front lines of today’s fights of human rights, the rule of law and the battle to control climate change.
