Another $750 million CDN is being added to a one-billion-dollar federal fund to expand high-speed internet to Canadians in rural and remote communities.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that the Universal Broadband Fund will see 98 per cent of Canadians connected to high-speed internet by 2026.

The initial billion-dollar program was announced in the 2019 budget.

Pfizer said Monday that an early peek at the data on its coronavirus vaccine suggests the shots may be a surprisingly robust 90% effective at preventing COVID-19, putting the company on track to apply later this month for emergency-use approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

Canada has bought the rights to 20 million doses of Pfizer's experimental COVID-19 vaccine, which the company says has been highly effective in one large-scale trial.

And while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the early data is encouraging, an eventual vaccine is no use to anyone who catches the virus now.

He says until a viable vaccine is available for mass distribution, Canadians need to keep up the good safety and hygiene practices recommended by public health officials.
